Michael Lockshin
Exclusive Screening of The Master and Margarita and Conversation with the Film Director
Conversation with the film director, Michael Lockshin, and an exclusive screening of his famous/infamous film Тhe Master and Margarita, based on Mikhail Bulgakov’s novel of the same name. The film was heavily criticized in Putin’s Russia as a statement against Putin’s regime and Russia’s war against Ukraine. Having fled Russia, Lockshin has lost rights to his film’s international distribution, whereas in Russia his name was deleted from the film’s credits. The film, which is a powerful artistic and ideological statement, can be currently watched outside of Russia only on university campuses as pre-arranged exclusive screenings.
This SEENEXT “Halloween” event is free for all UIC-affiliated and U of Chicago-affiliated attendees and SEENEXT members and regulars.
