Image Restoration in WAMI

Image Registration and Moving Object Detection in Wide Area Motion Imagery (WAMI) Data

In order to perform tracking on Wide Area Motion Imagery (WAMI) data, the initial steps of image registration and moving object detection are required. Within image registration, we utilize the extracted features from the scene to determine the translation of subsequent frames relative to a reference frame. By correcting this translation and registering frames one on top of another, stationary objects remain at the same image coordinates from frame to frame. However, moving objects continuously change their position relative to a stationary background. By subtracting the background we are able segment all motion with in a scene. The videos below illustrate a large scale image registration and the Moving Object Detection algorithm detecting motion of cars and trucks.
