In his 13th year of teaching, Mr. Al Sturdivant is a native of Charlotte NC, where he graduated from Independence High School in 2005.  He then received his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education with a Trumpet Concentration and minor in Piano from Winston-Salem State University in 2011.  He is currently seeking his Master's Degree in Music Education from the University of Memphis.  He is a member of professional organizations such as: The National Association for Music Educators (NAFME),  The South Central District Bandmasters Association (SCDBA), The Union County Bandmasters Association (UCBA), The Kappa Lambda Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity Inc., as well as The Mu Epsilon Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.  Since becoming Director of Bands at Monroe High school in 2017, the band program has grown tremendously increasing from 20 members to over 100 members.  They have also grown in notoriety.  They have received numerous 1st place superior ratings in both Marching and Concert Band competitions and contests. Designing the brand new uniforms in 2019, Mr. Sturdivant continues to drive the New Look "Red Storm" into the future showcasing their musicianship, versatility, and showmanship to the masses.
