Founded in 1933, the Monroe Band Program is the fourth oldest band program in the State of North Carolina. The program has a rich history and tradition of excellence that has been a source of pride for the community of Monroe, NC for generations. The Monroe High School Band alumni include Former US Senator Jesse Helms and other influential citizens in the State. The Bands have received "Superior" ratings at countless music festivals and "Music Performance Assessments" across the country including the National Band Music Festival and the SCDBA MPA Festivals. The Monroe Band has also shared the stage with pop star Shana Twain and premiered commissions by notable composers such as Robert Sheldon. With the program growing exponentially the band continues to showcase variety, versatility, showmanship, and most importantly Musicianship!

In the Monroe Band Program, all students receive rigorous music training that utilizes 21st century skills while respecting tradition. All students are held to high expectations to reach their utmost potential. Band directors expect all students to develop intrinsic motivation and exhibit a passion for music to experience individual and ensemble success. By developing and utilizing creativity, students will succeed musically and academically.
Monroe Band Program staff provides a safe and nurturing environment that is engaging and challenging for all students. The expectation is that each student takes ownership of his or her individual musical education through mastery of essential learning objectives. Staff expects students to understand their role in the overall program and emerge as leaders that uphold a tradition of excellence.
Monroe Band Program staff collaborate to adhere to a team teaching approach that further develops each individual’s musical ability and utilizes each director’s musical and pedagogical strengths. All members of the program create and maintain partnerships within the school and community. Staff and students wholeheartedly contribute to a positive culture that projects into our families, school, and community. All stakeholders respect and honor the program’s history while contributing to its future.
