I visited each classroom to introduce myself to students and review my role as a school counselor. I always want students to know that my job is about helping them, and I help them through classroom lessons, small groups, individual counseling, and consulting with parents and teachers. Students learned how to let me now if they need my help by putting a referral note in one of my counselor mailboxes. Students also completed a short check-in activity to help me and their teacher know how they feel about the school year so far.

These two lessons focused on problem solving strategies. In the October lesson, students learned to identify the difference between a bullying situation and a rude, annoying, or mean moment. These lessons were an important next step to review and learn strategies to help with these other problems. We first reviewed how to differentiate between big problems that immediately need adult help vs. small problems that you first try to solve on your own. Students learned and practiced the strategies shown.
