Risk Management

Any activity planned that has the potential to be hazardous, ie. anything outside the normal activities of a classroom, needs a Hazard Assessment and student training. An example of this could be Flintknapping or any lab activity requiring the use of chemicals or sharps.

A Hazard Assessment Form must be completed and signed-off by a supervisor before the activity can proceed so allow sufficient lead time for this to occur before the start of the activity / event.

Procedures:

Using the Hazard Assessment App and the Instructions on the Blank From, complete the Hazard Assessment Blank Form for your lab activity. Obtain a signature from your supervisor (Chair) and then submit the form to the Archaeology Technologist for filing. Insure that you have all identified "Controls" on hand. At commencement of the activity, provide training to the students in the lab and have them sign the Training Documentation Record.

If any injuries are sustained during this activity or any other lab activity, complete an Incident Report

See the Office of Environment, Health and Safety website (link below) for all Hazard Information. The document below Hazard Management Procedure is a good summary, but Caution, the information is old.
