Welcome to the Pediatrics!

On the first day of your rotation you will report directly to your scheduled site: Stollery (SCH), Misericordia (MIS), Grey Nuns (GNH) hospitals and Emergency (ER). 

During your time on pediatrics, you will have exposure to a wide range of patients, ranging from early infancy through to late adolescence.  There will be generally healthy kids who are with a single straightforward issue, those with new diagnoses of potentially serious conditions, patients with serious or chronic ongoing problems, those with multiple complex medical needs, and everything in between!  The diversity of patients and patient problems is part of what makes pediatrics great, but it can also be overwhelming at times.

Information on this site has been put together to provide you with some important details about your pediatric rotation.  Please take the time to read it!  It contains the educational objectives for the rotation, some suggested resources to help you to meet these objectives, and some basic tips for dealing with common call issues. If you are doing a Pediatric Emergency rotation, you will also receive additional information particular to that clinical area.  You will also receive site-specific information during your orientation to the Grey Nuns or Misericordia Hospitals.

As with any learning experience, you will find this rotation most beneficial if you have some specific learning goals that you set for yourself.  The pediatric objectives developed by your program are a good place to start.  Depending on your clerkship experiences, you may have had a head start on many of those objectives, or you may find that there are a lot of gaps to be filled.  It is very important that you reflect on your experience and learning, and if you feel that there are certain areas that you feel you need more exposure or experience, let the attending physician and/or senior resident know!
