Description: Health is offered as a six-week course meeting every day. This course will give students the knowledge and strategies to lead a healthy life, make healthy choices and become a confident, young adult. Topics covered will include: health risks/behaviors, body systems, mental/emotional health, nutrition, physical fitness/exercise, diseases, CPR/first aid, drugs, alcohol, tobacco and human sexuality.

Course Objectives:

· Students will understand how to reduce their health risks through the practice of healthy behaviors.

· Students will show an understanding of health promotion and disease prevention concepts.

· Students will show understanding of how culture, media, peers, family, and other factors influence healthy behaviors.

· Students will demonstrate the ability to access valid information and/or resources about health issues, services and products.

· Students will demonstrate use of skillful communication to contribute to better health for themselves, their families, and the community.

· Students will demonstrate the ability to set personal goals to enhance health.

· Students demonstrate the ability to make decisions that lead to better health.

Required Supplies:

· Pens/pencils

· 3 ring binder with paper/dividers

· Chrome Book

Grading: View your updated grade at Power School.

Students will be graded on all assignments on a 1-4 scale. 4 is equal to be proficient with distinction, 3 is proficient, 2 is approaching the standard and 1 is needs improvement.

Classroom Rules:

· No Ipods, MP3, cell phones or other electronic devices. They will be confiscated.

· Healthy snacks in class only.

· No drinks other than water

· Show up with a good attitude

· Have a willingness to try new things

· Be cooperative with others

· Try your absolute best

*If anyone needs extra help – I am available by appointment or I am available most mornings before school. With my help, we can set-up tutoring sessions if necessary.
