Inclement Weather

Before making a decision about whether to cancel school for the day or to dismiss students early, there are many things to consider. Obviously, the most important consideration is the safety of the students and staff members. For example, when trying to decide about whether to dismiss early, the District needs to weigh that possibility against the fact that younger students may go home to empty homes because parents are still at work. Consequently, the elementary buildings, especially, make numerous phone calls to their parents to make certain they are aware of the situation. And, if the bus driver arrives at the home and discovers that parents are not at home, those students are kept on the buses until parents can be contacted.

You know what they say about Missouri weather, if you don’t like it just wait and it will soon change! The weather, as unpredictable as it is, is monitored closely by driving on the roads, following the weather reports, and contacting people throughout the school district boundaries and in neighboring school districts to determine weather and road conditions. The District strives to make the best decision it can with the information provided.

You may find out the latest news about closings and/or early dismissals by tuning in to KMZU, KMMO, and TV Channels 4, 5, and 9. (Beginning this year, information is now also posted on TV Channels 4 and 9.) Usually the quickest way to get the information is by listening to our local radio station.

During any type of weather, school bus transportation is the safest of any. So when in doubt, it is best to send students on the busses. During cold weather, please encourage your child to dress appropriately. Thank you for your support and please contact the District if you have any questions.

In the future, when inclement weather may threaten the safety of students, parents and staff, the Carrollton R-7 School District may utilize a "Two Hour Delayed Start". If a "Two Hour Delayed Start" is utilized, all school buildings will open at 9:35 a.m. and school will start at 10:00 a.m. On the "Two Hour Delay Start" days breakfast will not be served and school will be dismissed at the regular time.

When a school closing or delayed start is utilized, notification will be posted on the school's website (www.trojans.k12.mo.us) and sent out through the district's Text Caster. Information will also be provided to local radio stations for announcement. Thank you in advance for your cooperation to help keep everyone safe.
