Mr. Wrigley

Phillip Wrigley has taught at beautiful Topeka High School since 2013. He is a National Board Certified Teacher, specializing in social studies and teaching English language learners. Before joining the team in Topeka, he taught in Lawrence and Kansas City, coached swimming, and had a lot of fun as an outdoor educator. He graduated with honors from the University of Kansas, where he earned a B.A. in anthropology and history, and earned his M.Ed. at Rockhurst University, where he was recognized with the Ignatian Award. He currently teaches US Government, World History, US History, Hispanic Studies, and Sophomore Seminar and advises the Voting Club. He previously taught Early US History, AVID, Current Social Issues, and English for Speakers of Other Languages 1 & 2, and for five years coached the Scholars Bowl team. He serves THS as as the English Learners Department Chair and on the School Improvement Leadership Team, and is a member of the district's Social Studies Curriculum and Assessment Team. He works to make education in Kansas better for all as an elected board director for the Kansas National Education Association and a teacher member of the Kansas Professional Standards Board. He serves as the cubmaster of his daughters' Cub Scout pack and is a supervising election judge. Other than teaching, his interests include singing, swimming, camping, cycling, reading, nature, science, traveling, and exploring the wide, wonderful world with his wife, Paula, a medical laboratory scientist technical specialist in flow cytometry, and their two amazing daughters.
