I am basically an agricultural graduate with post graduation and Ph. D. in Biotechnology obtained from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), India. Since the inception of my research in 1998 as M. Sc. (Biotechnology) student, I have been working in dissection of drought resistance at morphological, physiological and molecular level. I did part of my Ph. D. thesis research at International Rice Research Institute, The Philippines on QTL mapping of drought resistance traits in rice. Immediately after completing my Ph. D., I was employed as Assistant Professor in Biotechnology at TNAU in December, 2004 and currently working as Professor in Department of Plant Biotechnology, CPMB&B, TNAU, Coimbatore. As the contemporary plant breeding is under pressure to synthesize new crop varieties that adapt to the climate change and different abiotic stresses, I started to work in genetic improvement of rice, cotton, hot-pepper, tomato, mungbean and Moringa for increased yield with better nutritional qualities using cutting edge molecular tools.

· Distinguished Academic Leader: Prof. Dr. N. Manikanda Boopathi has had a distinguished career at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) since 2004, serving as a pioneer in plant biotechnology and genomics-assisted breeding and handled 45+ courses to 10+ degree programs.
· Research Pioneer: Integrates next-generation sequencing, high-throughput genotyping, and bioinformatics to unlock crop genetic architecture for yield, stress tolerance, and disease resistance.
· Proven Impact: Secured over 25 externally funded projects worth more than ₹24 crores, contributing to the development of 5 high-yielding, climate-resilient crop varieties.
· Prolific Scholar: Authored 10 books with globally leading publishers and published over 150 articles in prestigious scientific journals such as Scientific Reports, Frontiers in Plant Science, Crop Protection, Euphytica, Plant Breeding, The Plant Genome, Journal of Fungi, Physiology and Molecular Biology of Plants, Rice Science and Molecular Biology Reports.
· Dedicated Mentor: Inspired and guided the next generation of scientific talent, mentoring more than 80 UG and PG students and 1 post-doctoral fellow and 1 women scientist and more than 12 senior research fellows and 5 Teaching Assistants.
