Also, take into consideration your school placement for your commute time. You should expect to travel 20-35 minutes to your placement school if you live centrally.
Yes! Your first year in the corps is stressful and having a support system at home, amongst other corps members, makes the transition easier. If you are not a certified teacher, you will also be working towards becoming certified and will have to budget for certification cost your first year. Living with other corps members will make housing costs more affordable. (See the financial resources page for more information)
Flooding is a risk in Houston and after Hurricane Harvey it is top of mind for many of us. We recommend buying flood insurance whenever possible. Also, ask your apartment locator or landlord about the flooding risk in the area and the flooding history.
