Teach For America began its partnership with AmeriCorps in 1994, as an inaugural AmeriCorps program. We are proud to participate in this network of national service programs committed to addressing critical community needs across the country, such as increasing academic achievement, mentoring youth, fighting poverty, sustaining national parks, preparing for disasters, and more.
To qualify for AmeriCorps membership, you must be a US citizen, a US national, or a lawful permanent resident and meet other service term requirements. (Those who have already served in an AmeriCorps program and earned previous education awards may be ineligible for additional education awards.) AmeriCorps awards rely on federal funding and participation is not guaranteed every year.Â
EAD Holders
DACA recipients and other eligible EAD holders are not eligible to enroll in AmeriCorps or receive the Segal Education Award. However, Teach For America is committed to matching that financial support for our DACAmented and other eligible EAD holding corps members. DACA recipients and other eligible EAD holders will receive the same dollar amount in the form of a Teach For America Education Award directly from TFA instead of from AmeriCorps. They will receive additional information directly from the Senior Managing Director of Educator Grants.
Note: As AmeriCorps awards rely on federal funding, these benefits are not guaranteed every year. These benefits are not automatic; corps members enrolled in AmeriCorps must take specific actions to activate the benefits. More information on how to do so will be shared once corps members are enrolled. Â
