All-State Band

MSBOA All-State Program

Five ensembles are selected from recorded auditions: Middle School String Orchestra, Middle School Band, High School Full Orchestra, High School Band, and High School Jazz Band

Students must perform the attached etude and scales, and sight-read during each recorded audition.  There is a non-refundable $15 fee to audition due to Mr. Dudzinski on September 22.  Each audition is submitted using only an identification number with no reference to the student or school. The auditions are evaluated by an adjudicator and placed in order of ability. The required number of instruments is selected to fill each section. The goal is to determine the top students on each instrument from across the State of Michigan.  Over 2,000 students audition each year for the 400 seats in the five All-State ensembles.

Walled Lake Western students will audition at Walled Lake Northern High School on Saturday, October 23 and Sunday, October 24.  Audition schedules will be posted on the MSBOA website in mid-October.  Mr. Dudzinski will notify you of your audition time.

In January, All-State Band students assemble for two and a half days of rehearsal with nationally recognized conductors. The rehearsals take place at DeVos Hall in Grand Rapids from Thursday, January 27 through Saturday, January 29.  A concert will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at the Michigan Music Conference in Grand Rapids, MI.

Students who are selected to participate in the ensemble will be notified in late November or early December.  If your child is selected, you will be responsible for the $60 participation fee, as well as expenses for lodging, transportation, and meals.

The audition worksheet and $15 Payment (cash or check made out to Walled Lake Western) are due no later than Tuesday, September 22.  Audition schedules will be available in mid-October.
