3rd Grade Recorder

Students will work on learning a recorder this year in music.

***Students will be leaving their recorders in the music room for the beginning of our recorder unit.  As they progress and learn more skills they will have the option to bring their recorder home and practice. Recorders must be brought back to school each week for music class. ***

Students learn recorder by studying skills and practicing folk songs from a program called "Recorder Karate."  Students have the opportunity to test for a belt to be placed on their recorder to show their progress at each song level.  Before students "test" for a colored belt they are asked to play for a friend and have a friend give them feedback or advice on how to improve before they try to achieve their belt.

At various points students may choose to practice a "challenge" song.  These songs will not be taught in class but students are encouraged to play them and will be awarded a special colored belt each time they successfully play a challenge song!
