Elementary Band
Instruments taught in Fourth grade include PERCUSSION (bell kit), ALTO SAXOPHONE, CLARINET, FLUTE, TRUMPET AND TROMBONE
Band students are working on learning their first notes on their instrument. They are working on using proper instrument technique to play accurate notes and rhythms.
**Students must return a permission form to indicate interest in participating in band.**
**If students are having trouble with learning their instrument fingerings I would recommend an app called fingeringcharts.com. This can be very helpful as it is interactive and helps students visually see the charts.

You can also find tuners available (many free) to download to tablets or phones to help students practice eat home.
The specific one we use is called TE Tuner and is available for purchase through the APP store.
What has your student been doing learning and experiencing in band so far?
Students will begin to experience setting up, caring for and playing their instrument. Students will be learning strategies to figure out their instrument fingerings and read notes on a music staff. Each instrument will be working on playing using good technique (not over blowing and good hand position) as well as playing accurate rhythms individually and by watching a conductor. Students will begin to experiment with using a a tool called a tuner. A Tuner helps to identify if the correct note is played and if we are sharp or flat. This tells us if we need to lengthen or shorten our instrument or change the sound of the instrument to create the correct note.
Students should practice using their fingering chart, band book and resources in their band folder. I have included fingering charts for each of the instruments on the bottom of the page. (Just click on the arrow to view and download.)
