Welcome to Eighth Grade. It will be a pleasure working with the students and their parents this coming year to prepare them to soar into high school and help them to develop their personal skills and talents.I have simple expectations . I desire the students to complete their homework and assignments completely , thoughtfully, and timely. I expect them to listen attentively and respectively, take good notes, ask thoughtful questions, and allow other students to learn and reach his or her full potential.
World History : Focus on how ancient civilizations from Sumer to the Roman Empire developed and effect the world we live in today. We will learn to take notes in various styles like Cromwell, Outline, and free notes along with using Venn diagrams, compare and contrast and maps. We will learn about a variety of religions, technologies, and types of governments created in ancient times that added to man's understanding of the world, and mankind itself.
Geography: In seventh grade we take a survey of the world's physical and cultural geography. We attempt to learn how the geographical features of the world affected the development of civilization and culture and how those civilizations and cultures affected the geography and environment we live in. We will attempt to obtain a greater picture of the world itself, how mankind studies it, what geographers study, learn the nations of the world and where they are located , and how those nations exist and relate to other countries historically and today.
United States History: In eighth grade, we study and learn the beginnings of the United States from its ancient inhabitants the First Nations to the colonization of the New World thru the founding fathers, the Constitution, and the development of the greatest nation . We will learn both its great accomplishments and its stumbles. We will look at the struggles and wars from the colonial period to the Civil War. We will consider its greatest heroes and often their flaws as well in the context of the period they lived. Hopefully we learn to try not to alter history ,but appreciate it , and understand how really great our birth and growth , and accomplishments have benefited the world.
