Health/Physical Education

Basic PE guidelines, protocols, etc. as well as the link for the National PE Standards can be found at the bottom of this page!

Curriculum areas we are planning to cover this school year:

Every month we have a fitness challenge and fill out a fitness calendar/log. This is done to keep us accountable for our own personal fitness level as well as working toward our fitness goals and covers Standards 4,5, and 6

Everyone stay active out there- because after all- if you don't take care of your body, where are you going to live!?!

Throughout the year we will take some time out of activity to learn about our Spiritual, Mental, Emotional, Social, Environmental and Physical health. It's important to be well- rounded and your PE/Health class is the perfect place and opportunity to dive into some very crucial topics to help you live your best life!

Now is the time to start developing habits that will keep you doing the things you love and live a healthy, long life to serve others and God.

Junior High PE/Health students get ready for some new adventures in the gym, and to most importantly :

HAVE FUN!!

Now down to the:

of PE class.

1) Please make sure you have proper shoes for PE. Athletic shoes are vital to your success in the gym. Please no skater type shoes- you know the ones with the big laces that don't tie and hold your foot in place, they also have no arch support which is important for your growing bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints. A running shoe or cross training shoe is really your best bet. You may want to go to a shoe store that can fit you into a shoe that's just right for you.

This will hopefully be relevant once we are back to normal- this year we are not changing into our PE uniforms!

2) Please make sure you have your SMV PE uniform. Now I understand life happens and you may forget your clothes or maybe you forgot them in the laundry. If your PE uniform is not clean and ready to go on Monday or Wednesday, PLEASE wear a 5:11 t-shirt, a Soles Walk t-shirt, a Spritwear t-shirt, or a plain t-shirt (no phrases or screen printing) and pair of comparable shorts to our uniform shorts- UNTIL YOUR PE UNIFORM IS CLEAN (1 OR AT MAXIMUM 2 PE DAYS).

UNDERSTAND THIS IS ONLY AN OPTION IF IN A RARE CASE YOUR PE UNIFORM IS NOT CLEAN- THIS IS NOT AN EVERYDAY OPTION FOR PE

3) Please come to PE with an attitude of I will try. I want you all to understand that the gym is a place to grow and learn new and fun ways to stay fit and active for your whole life. This isn't an Olympic training facility, a professional training complex, or a super intense sports practice. Your SMV gym is the place to have fun, ease some stress you may have, feel success and fail- yes that's right- you can and will fail in some of the things we do this year in PE and THAT'S OK!! Not all of us are good at everything, we all have strengths and weaknesses that we are going to share and work at.

ALL I WANT YOU TO DO IS BE ACTIVE AND GIVE IT YOUR BEST SHOT!!

4) Please come into the gym everyday with a kind heart. We are going to have fun this year in PE, but we all know it's no fun if we are being harassed, teased, feeling left out, or feeling as though we are being judged. SO I want everyone to be encouraging, helpful and KIND!!

5) Please bring a doctor's note if you have an injury. If your child is unable to participate in PE class for a medical reason please email me at jbrandtjen@stmaryeg.org or their classroom teacher. You may also send a written note from your child’s doctor or yourself stating the limitations your child has. I only ask this because sometimes the kids really want to participate and say they are fine so that they can play, when they really shouldn’t because they need to heal.

That's all for now be ready every Tuesday and Thursday to have fun, get fit and be the kind of people God wants us to be!
