Mrs. Buchta’s SJS Middle School Language Arts/Literature 2025-26
I am happy to be your Language Arts and Literature teacher this year! Each day is a new day, an opportunity to continue on our journey to deepen our mindset to be even more positive, productive, and faithful. There may be changes to what you are traditionally used to, but I have confidence that you will be capable and successful throughout this school year as long as you have an open mind, heart, and willingness to learn. Please know that I have an open door policy, and you are welcome to ask me questions or talk to me about any concerns. Let’s start this year with prayers for the positives and success in all that we do.
God Bless each of you!
Mrs. Buchta
Middle School has a Middle School Parent Portal that will allow communication in one area as needed.
You will also find my full syllabus on that portal.
COMMUNICATION
Student First
During middle school, students take on more independence and ownership. With that being said, if I have a small concern either behaviorally or academically, I will always try to have the student rectify the situation before immediately reaching out to the parents. In some situations, I will email a “heads-up” if I believe the situation needs to be documented or communicated. In most scenarios, I try to let the student(s) work to solve their own issues, which allows the opportunity to communicate it to you first. If there are major academic or behavioral issues, I will reach out to you via email, followed by a conversation with the student. Please note, in the middle school, we have roughly 38+ students that we see many times daily; therefore, some communications may be delayed. We ask for patience and understanding. If you ever have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
SJS Tid-Bits
I do not traditionally send out newsletters or update my classroom website as frequently as I would like. It is strongly encouraged to read the school Tid-Bits to remain updated on school announcements and events. It is our assumption in middle school that each family has read the SJS Tid-Bits and is aware of the information within the emails sent. Therefore, we do not routinely send out reminder emails for various school announcements.
Google Classroom
I use Google Classroom for most of my assignments. It is a great resource tool for students who have been absent to get caught up with what they missed. Due dates are set and Google Classroom will typically notify the student of any incomplete or late assignments. Access to Google Classroom can only be done through your child, unfortunately, I am not able to offer parent access/notifications per Google. Note that if we transition to a virtual context, Google Classroom is the main platform to complete and turn work in.
FACTS & Grading
If you ever have questions about your student’s grade, please refer to the FACTS gradebook. Both you and your child will have access to his/her FACTS account and are able to see current grades and missing assignments. I try to leave comments in FACTS regarding the assignment(s). If a student has a comment of “see me” for a related assignment in FACTS, it is the student’s responsibility to come and discuss their work with me. I always encourage students to come to me if they feel that their grade was entered incorrectly. I am human and I make mistakes. I expect your child to be their own advocate for their learning.
Field Trips
I or the school office will occasionally reach out with a request for field trip parent volunteers. That request will typically entail either being a chaperone and/or a driver. Teachers are responsible for creating groups and organizing all of the logistics for field trips. Thank you in advance for volunteering!
Importance of Communication
Please ask! If you have questions, please feel free to email me. We understand that middle school is a HUGE change for our students. We will do our best to answer your questions or to find the answer to your questions. Do not hesitate to ask at all.
