Middle School Music is a continuous 3-year curriculum that focuses on Music History, the Science of Sound, Musical Instruments, and learning to listen to and analyze music from any genre. Students will also continue to develop their singing voices, rhythmic and movement vocabulary, note-reading and -writing and folk dance repertoire.
Please make sure you have a dedicated three-ring binder for music class. (You may choose to use the same binder for Chorus.) You will use this binder for 6th, 7th and 8th grade! Do not throw it out at the end of 6th or 7th grade!
Your binder should include 5-tab dividers and loose leaf paper for note-taking.
Label the sections as follows:
Theory/Aural
Songs
Instruments
Music History
Glossary
You are expected to take notes during class, particularly copying anything I write on the board, and adding to your glossary as you learn new musical terminology. Several times throughout the year, I will be checking binders. You will receive 5 pts each time, for a binder that is kept up to date.
See the Chorus and Liturgy Choir pages for information concerning those ensembles.
Remember to check out the Resources page for fun musical activities!
