Great Sites for Research
I always recommend starting your research with Worldbook or Kids Info Bits within the Bookmarks for Research. These are "expert sites" that have information Google can't find you.

Geared for K-7, you can enter a search term, but it also has lots of clickable options…results are usually fairly limited, but appropriate. Kidsclick is run by the Kent State School of Library and Information
Services.
Searches only Web sites that a staff of research experts, librarians and teachers have evaluated and approved as high-quality content appropriate for young users.
