Absences:
Make-up work must be turned in according to the schedule in the student handbook. If you were present the day an assignment was made, and you are absent the day the assignment is due, that assignment will be due on the first day you return to class. It is the student's responsibility to get missed assignments in the designated absentee folder. An absence on a test review day does not excuse a student from the test the day they return. The only exception is if new material was covered the day prior to the test.
Review Sessions:
Review or tutorial sessions may be held at 7:30 AM or 3:45 PM on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, according to individual teacher arrangement. If your teacher is unavailable, the student may ask another biology teacher for assistance.
Tests:
1. Tests are a mixture of multiple choice, short answer, fill-in-the-blank and essay.
2. Tests will cover laboratory activities, material covered in class, reading material, and homework.
Laboratory Work:
Students must return a signed safety contract and pass a safety quiz with a minimum of 80%, before they are allowed to enter the lab. Any violation of lab rules will result in a deduction of points for the lab activity, discipline measures, OR removal from the lab and a grade of zero for the day.
Cheating:
1. Giving and receiving answers to/from another student on ANY graded assignment is a form of cheating.
2. In the case of a daily grade, both students will receive zeros and "N's" or "U's" in conduct.
3. If cheating occurs on major tests, both student's will be given a zero on the test and receive “U’s” in conduct.
**Students will not be allowed to retake a test if they were caught cheating.**
Projects:
Any major projects done will count as major grades. Project topics will be announced and a timeline and a grading rubric will be given so there is adequate time for the student to complete the assignment.
Extension Center Policy:
1. In the event a student is placed in the extension center, it is their responsibility to obtain class work from me.
2. The student is expected to submit ALL requested work when designated or IMMEDIATELY UPON THEIR RETURN TO THE CLASSROOM.
3. The student must remember that they are expected to bring all required classroom supplies to EC.
Textbook and Supplies:
1. Textbook: Biology by Johnson and Raven
2. The textbook is available online at the SHS website: click students/parents, then click textbooks from the drop box, and then login using the student's ID and password.
3. I have created a list of supplies for the Biology Pre-AP classes and Biology I classes.
Student Evaluation:
1. Daily Grades (class work, homework, etc.) = 10% of six weeks average
2. Labs/Quizzes = 30% of six weeks average
3. Major Grades (tests, projects) = 60% of six weeks average
Determination Of Semester Grade:
a. Six weeks = 85%
b. Semester exam = 15%
Late work policy:
1. Assignments are due at beginning of class, on the designated due date.
2. 10 points will be deducted for each assignment each day it is late.
