Research writing is the focus of Freshman Composition. Students will develop daily journals, peer evaluation skills, and present reports on outside readings orally during the course.

The Student will:
develop critical listening skills
perform in classroom speech demonstrations
evaluate other speakers and provide positive feedback in writing
gain an understanding of speaking terminology/ vocabulary

Class Procedures and Rules
Sign in and out if you are tardy or leaving classroom.
Laptop and Internet Procedures
No laptop use unless specifically instructed,
Leave laptops under desks unless otherwise instructed.
No email until last five minutes of class.
First misuse leads to confiscation for remainder of period, second till end of day.

speeches
peer evaluations
quizzes and tests
small group work and presentations
journals
Letter grades for the course are determined by the school wide-grading scale outlined below:
96-100 A
92-95 A-
B+
86-88 B
83-85 B-
79-82 C+
76-78 C
73-75 C-
69-72 D+
65-68 D
60-64 D-
Homework Procedures
Late work may be reduced in value by one letter grade.
Assessment Plan
Student assessment will be based on written and oral performances as well as class peer critics and a course final.
Extra credit is allowed until midterm of each semester. No extra credit will be granted after midterm of each nine week period.
