Part I Art Analysis
Find a piece of modern art (1900 to present) and evaluate it according to the characteristics of Renaissance art listed below. Compare and contrast it with a piece of Renaissance art. One page double-spaced. Art must be "school appropriate." Save a copy of both pieces of art work to your computer. In comparing and contrasting the two artworks, YOU MUST DISCUSS THE CHARACTERISTICS LISTED BELOW. Use the “art comparison chart for student project” handed out in class. (It can also be found on the assignments page.)
Renaissance Art Characteristics
Realism: Exceptional detail to achieve realism, both with the human body and nature, surroundings, and/or background
Perspective: Shadowing and depth, and/or linear perspective with a vanishing point
Classicism: balance and harmony
Individualism: the new dignity of the individual shown through detail: muscles, ligaments and tendons, veins, clothing, facial features
Subject Matter: Religious subjects, mythology, daily life
Part II Art Project poster, outline,and speech
Using the two pieces of artwork you selected for Part I, construct a poster to present to the class. You must also type an outline of your speech. The poster must compare/contrast the Renaissance artwork with the contemporary artwork using the characteristics of Renaissance art listed above.
ART PROJECT CHECKLIST
