Welcome! My name is Chase Tyson. I am a PE and Health teacher along with being a Spearfish Middle School football coach and father of two beautiful young kids.
"Go Hard, and Have Fun" is my life motto, which simply means that I expect nothing less than a students' best effort in whatever they do; along with making each activity more personalized and therefore, more fun. Learning occurs best when students enjoy the activity and when there is a personal gain from the activity. Therefore most class-time activities will be directed towards activities and health-related lessons that students can associate to life after high school.
My main goal as an educator, whether in the classroom or in the gym, is to motivate students to find their own individual strengths and interests to set them up for the most success possible in their lives after school.
In all my classes; there will be a structure: of play (rules/terminology) in Lifetime Activities/PE and daily progression in Health, knowledge of what is required, and most importantly development of self-awareness with critical thinking. Participation and Effort are the main grading assessments associated with the student's daily grade.
As each student differs in their own way, so too will their goals and aspirations towards a successful life. I expect that each student will earn their own grade; as well as that each parent/guardian/student will not hesitate to contact me with any problems, questions, concerns, or even something you enjoy that I am doing. Let's have a great year!
