Welcome to Health! This one Semester/0.5 credit course is required to graduate from Spearfish High School. This class is going to be tailored to help students understand themselves mentally, physically, socially, and emotionally.
Health as a subject area is part of each and every day of our entire life. Spanning from what you eat and how much you sleep, to handling stressful situations/relationships and even first aid/CPR. I urge all students to make this class as personal as possible in creating new, healthy habits. Research shows that "Health-promoting behaviors.....promote health and well-being during adolescence and are associated with higher levels of healthy behaviors during adulthood" (e.g. Lau, Quadrel, & Hartman 1990). I am a believer in the development of good habits at a young age in order to assist in becoming a better, stronger, and more developed person.
Guest speakers will be part of this curriculum as they present on a variety of topics including but not limited to: teen Mental Health First Aid, Youth and Family Services with Healthy Relationships, Overall Health (presented by our school nurse), and Oral Health.
Attached Below you will find my class syllabus which includes; Class Rules and Expectations, Grading Procedure, and Absence Make-up.
