Expectations:
We Expect:
All students to arrive at the gym on time for class
Come to class prepared with appropriate footwear and attire including sneakers, athletic clothing, deodorant
Lock up belongings in lockers
Follow safety protocols outlined by the P.E. staff
Keep your hands to yourself at all times
Give their best effort during activities
Play fairly and with good sportsmanship
Respect physical education equipment and use it properly
Treat others with kindness and respect
Maintain a cell phone free space
Class Procedures:
Upon entering the gym, students should report directly to their squad spot and sit down for attendance. They should be sitting down by the time the bell rings. Attendance will be taken, then each teacher will dismiss students to the locker room to change, use the restroom, etc. Students will have 3-4 minutes in the locker room, before they are expected to return to the gym. All students will eventually report to the bleachers until instruction begins.
At the end of class, teachers will dismiss students to the locker room and all students will remain in the bleachers until the bell rings to be dismissed.
Grading Policy:
All students begin each marking period with 100%.
Students can lose up to 5 points daily for the following behaviors:
All 5 points will be lost if a students is unprepared for class (improper footwork/attire)
Partial points can be lost as a result of:
Lack of effort or partial participation
Misuse of equipment
Unsportsmanlike behavior
Failure to demonstrate proper skill use/rules of activity
*Any loss of points will be communicated to parents/guardians via genesis, email, or phone call depending on the situation.
Discipline Policy:
1st offense: verbal warning
2nd offense: email home
3rd offense: discipline referral sent to administration
This policy will be followed in the event of the following behavior(s):
Unexcused late to class
Leaving class without permission
Roughhousing with other students
Unprepared for class (not permitted to participate on that day)
Students perform risky actions that could put their safety or others’ at risk
*No tolerance for bullying or fighting. Those behaviors will be immediately reported to the administration.
Cell Phone Policy:
We are now a cell phone free school, which will be strictly enforced.
If a cell phone or earbuds are found in possession of a student it will be brought to the main office and documented.
Medical Note/Parent Note
A medical note from a doctor needs to be turned in to the main office.
All medically excused students will remain in the gym and be assigned a role during class OR given time to complete work for other classes.
The nurse/main office must be given a clearance note for any child before returning to class activities.
Parents can excuse their child from participating for up to 3 consecutive days. Your child can bring in a note to give to their PE teacher or the parent can email the teacher directly.
Google Classroom:
We will be using our google classrooms to communicate with you throughout the year.
Please remember to check it for announcements often.
Make sure you accept your invitation to join during the first week of school
Bathroom/Nurse Policy
Must ask YOUR teacher to use the bathroom.
Only 2 individuals are allowed to go to the bathroom at a time - use locker room bathrooms
Nurse for emergencies - must ask and get a pass to go to the nurse’s office
We have Band-Aids, ice packs, etc.
Drills:
Fire drill - put class in squads, immediately line up alphabetically, then walk quietly outside into the parking lot.
Evacuation-put class in squads, immediately line up alphabetically, walk to mull lot
Lockdown/active shooter- inside - students move into the locker rooms until a second announcement is heard. Lock exterior doors, pull door shades down
Shelter in place - remain in the room, lock exterior doors and continue normal activities. No one can leave the room.
