Minimum Proficiencies and Grading Procedures

Music Theory I

Music Theory I is an introductory course in music theory that includes diatonic harmony, ear training and harmonic analysis. Concepts and materials include voice leading, part writing, form, harmonic progressions, seventh chords, composition, introductory jazz theory, sight singing and ear training.

AP-Music Theory

This program of music theory requires a large amount of independent study. Included in the course are composition, chromatic and altered harmony, modulation, basic orchestration, jazz theory, advanced form and harmonic analysis, sight singing and ear training. Students have the opportunity and are encouraged to take the AP Music Theory Exam.

On all levels, the following grading procedures will be followed:

Classroom Work

This includes class assignments, discussions and preparation

for class.

Tests, Quizzes, and Written Work

All assignments are expected to be handed in on time.

Any assignment that is late will reduced by a full grade for

each day late.

Homework

This includes topical research, Google assignments, etc.

All assignments are expected to be handed in on time.

Workbook (if applicable)

CD (2)

Notebook-manuscript book

Pencils-work will not be accepted in pen!

Late homework/assignments will NOT be accepted.

*There will be no gum, food or hats allowed in class.
