Known as Jose Inga, he arrived in the Cayman Islands in 1989 as a marble artist and distributor. His artistic journey took a pivotal turn in 1995 when Raymond Scott recognized his talent and creativity, introducing him to the beauty of Caymanite. This led Jose to Cayman Brac, where his first Caymanite designs were showcased and soon distributed across the Cayman Islands.
From a young age, Jose's passion for carving was fueled by the need to support his family with school expenses. Encouraged by this dedication, he pursued formal training in sculpting at the Junta Nacional De Defensa Del Artesano in Cuenca, Ecuador. His first large-scale commission came in 1999, marking the start of a career rich with commissioned stone carvings displayed in the National Museum and local souvenir shops around the island.
Jose's deep love for sculpture has inspired him to explore diverse styles, with nature being his primary muse. His work often combines spiritual or philosophical themes, transforming natural forms into art that conveys deep emotions. A dedicated nature observer, he has been commissioned for numerous sea animal sculptures, where his skill in capturing life-like forms has earned him recognition as a master of Caymanite art.
