Black Coral and Pink Coral are prized jewelry materials but differ in origin, appearance, and cultural significance.
Black Coral, known for its deep brown to black color, is especially famous in the Caribbean, particularly in Cuba, and revered as "Hawaiian Black Gold" in the Pacific. This coral grows slowly in deep waters and is believed to have protective qualities, making it a popular talisman. Due to its rarity, Black Coral is protected to prevent overharvesting.
In contrast, Pink Coral has soft pastel hues from blush to salmon, making it popular for delicate jewelry. It grows in warmer, shallower waters and symbolizes love and harmony. Reflecting its local presence, Little Cayman’s sands have a pinkish tint from Pink Coral, which is locally sourced. Both corals are valued for their beauty, with sustainability efforts ensuring these resources remain protected for the future.
