KEYBOARDING TECHNIQUE
1. Eyes on the Copy
Eyes on the handout (paper) or the textbook or the screen
Do not look at your fingers or the keyboard while typing
2. Fingers on Home Row
A S D F J K L ;
Begin and end all keystrokes at Home Row
These are the anchor (or base) keys
3. Fingers Curved
Not flat
Tips of fingers resting lightly on keys
Quickly tap the keys
4. Demonstrate Correct Posture
Sit up straight - back against the chair
Body-centered on the "H" key on the keyboard
5. Feet on the floor
FLAT
To help with balance
6. Wrists Low
Wrists / Palms of the hands NOT resting on the keyboard or desk
Wrists not bent UP in the air or DOWN below the table
7. Keyboard
Placed at the edge of the desk
8. Correct Finger Usage
FINGERS SHOULD BE USED FOR ASSIGNED KEYS
- Strike Enter key quickly with the right little finger
- Shift Keys - uses opposite PINKY (little finger) when keying
- Use only one thumb for spacing
EXAMPLE: your Left Pinky will type letters q a z Tab Left Shift
- Tab Key - quick reach with the left little finger
9. Distance from the Keyboard
Sit 8 to 10 inches away from the keyboard (desk)
Not too close or far away
10. Arms
Properly slanted at your side (NO chicken wings)
11. Concentrate / Use of Time
The student used the entire time provided for
