In an engineering fair project, the data book is the most important part of any research project. It is a detailed account of every step of the project. The data book also displays proof that specific events and activities have taken place at specific times. Click on the resources below to help you understand how to set up a Data Book.
Notebook Guidelines - Using a Data Book to record ideas, observations and all work details is a vital part of any engineering design process. Careful attention to how you keep your Data Book can have a positive impact on the outcome of an engineering project.
Tabs - it is recommended that the tabs are printed on card-stock paper. You may also ask Mr. Swick for these tabs. Make sure you read the directions for place these tabs in the data book. Each tab has a recommended number of pages.
The Table of Contents helps you not only organize and find the location of specific information but allows a judge to easily find information about your project.
Knowing the Judging Criteria is very important to having a successful research project. Make sure to attach this document into the Tab 1 section.
You also should understand the difference between a science and an engineering project. Check out the Parallel Process document and attach to Tab 1 section.
The Intel ISEF Student Handbook should also be attached in the Tab 1 section. This four page document describes many types of research projects, methods on getting started, and elements of a successful project.
For the Design Proposal section of the data book, make sure to follow this document. Below is the attachment.
