All students must provide an abstract of their research. Students will need to download the Official Abstract form. Don't forget to save and print a copy. The Intel ISEF Student Handbook has additional information that may help you as well as a sample abstract.
IMPORTANT NOTE!
Please recognize the importance of this summary of your project and take the time to review it for completeness and readability. The abstract is used in the following manner:
SRC/IRB Review Committee: The St. Mary's County Science and Engineering Fair has a committee of experts that review possible participants for their fair. This Scientific Review Committee/Internal Review Board reviews your abstract to make sure you have understood the Intel ISEF rules and to provide the initial summary of the work that you did.
Display & Safety Inspections: The SM-SEF Display & Safety Committee reviews the questions at the bottom of the Official Abstract form during their safety inspections prior to the competition.
Public Exhibition: People who come through the SM-SEF event refer to the posted abstract at your exhibit to learn more about the project when the exhibitor is not present to explain.
Abstracts can be presented in a number of ways:
- to be attached with the rest of the Intel ISEF forms (required)
- attached the display poster or laid out in front of the display poster
- listed as a section of your research paper (using the official form)
- included in the cover page of the research paper (not using the official form)
- attached to the back cover of the data book (highly recommended).
