Julia Lanfersieck (Neuroscience major, rising senior) presented her summer research: ‘The role of 7a,25-Dihydroxycholesterol in Mouse Cortical Neurons’ at the DeNardo NeuroSURF Summer Symposium on August 3, 2022.

Colin He (STARS program) presented his summer research: ‘Progranulin expression in Rat Cortical Cells in Response to Hyperglycemia Exposure’ at the UMSL STARS program on July 22, 2022.

The Xu lab is thrilled to welcome four high school students to join the lab for summer 2022 research: Colin He (STARS program), Taiylor Carr (Youth Exploring Science Program at Saint Louis Science Center), Jessie Wang (volunteer), and Sophia He (volunteer).

The Xu lab members had so much fun this summer in the lab and also in the following places: Missouri Botanical Garden, St. Louis Zoo, and in a Chinese restaurant. We are Life Scientists! Our current members include the postdoc: Martina, graduate students: Cass, Lyuba, Kristina, and undergraduate students: Vandana, Julia L, Julia P, and Andrew.

Lab meeting to celebrate Kyle's successful thesis defense and welcome new graduate students (Lyuba, Kristina, and Cass) via Zoom!

Martina Rosato (our new postdoc) was presenting her Ph.D. thesis work in our lab meeting on November 4, 2019.

Nicki Patel (Senior Neuroscience Student) was presenting her research in our weekly lab meeting.

Kyle Pemberton (Ph.D. student in Xu lab) was presenting his knowledg about electrophysiology in our lab meeting.

Graduate student teaching assistants (Brittany & Kyle, both are Ph.D. students in Xu lab) were setting up the human-human interface device "your mind control other people's limbs" (from BackyardBrain Inc.)  for Dr. Xu's Neuroscience Laboratoriy course.

Kyle was presenting a poster in the annual SLU Center for Neuroscience Research Symposium.  He won the best graduate student poster award!

Undergraduate students Palavi and Jason (under the supervision by the graduate student Kyle) are conducting drug treatments to neurons they cultured.

We were on an annual field trip to the SLU Biology Reis Station. We were demonstrating some exciting hands-on activity using iWorx system (human physiology) to SLU Learning Community freshman students (> 100 students visited our station)

tudents in Dr. Xu's neuroscience laboratory class learned how to use the free ImageJ software measuring neurite outgrwoth from primary neurons. We have very talented students and they learned all these techniques so quickly. Most importantly, they all have very strong trouble shooting skills, critical thinking abilities, and super team working spirit!

Britany Mersman (Ph.D. student in Xu lab) was presenting her thesis work in the annual SLU graduate student research symposium.

Kyle Pemberton (Ph.D. student in Xu lab) is presenting his thesis work in the annual SLU graduate student research symposium.

Undergraduate Student Uddish Mondal (neuroscience major) was presenting his capstone project (in Xu lab) to his peers in the Senior Legacy Symposium.

Undergraduate Students Jason Lorenzo Cocjin (Currently a SLU Medical School Student) and Uddish Mondal (neuroscience major) were standing in front of their posters in the Senior Legacy Symposium.

Dr. Xu was presenting her research to young female students (rades 7-10) in the St. Louis area in the Expaning Your Hoorizons (EYH) conference. She was explaining her research intersts and also trying to spark the girls' interests in the STEM field.

Dr. Xu and graduate students volunteered in the St. Louis Science Center for the SciFEST: Healty U_Amazing Brain Carnival event. We interacted with so many families and friends in one day! Amazing day in the Science Center!
