Graduate Reading Room

Welcome to the new GSA general lounge/meeting space!

Thanks to a generous gift from the Provost’s Office as well as contributions from the library, the GSA now has a dedicated space (including a separate meeting room) for graduate students in the Pius XII Memorial Library. Construction commenced at the end of the 2020-21 academic year and finished just as summer ended, ready for a new school year.

The space was redesigned and furnished with contributions from the University Counseling Center (UCC) in 2023. To see other UCC WellSPACE rooms, check the UCC website. The GSA Reading Room has a mini-fridge, microwave, Keurig, and kettle. Please label any non-communal food in the mini-fridge and clean up after eating or drinking in the room. There are severable movable whiteboards. Whiteboard cleaning spray, erasers, and extra markers can be found either at the boards or in the blue storage cabinet. Please notify GSA if cleaning supplies are running low and keep them inside the reading room, as they are paid for by GSA and are not intended for external use.

FAQs: Where is it, is it locked, and when is it open?

The Graduate Reading Room is located in the Pius XII Memorial Library, Room 324. Please note that it is KEY CARD ACCESS ONLY, so be sure to bring your student ID to enter! It is accessible any time the library is open, so please check the library’s website before heading to campus.

FAQs: How can I request cleaning for the space?

Graduate students are responsible for maintaining a clean shared environment within this space. Please always pick up after yourself and remind those around you to keep the space clean for other students to use. If there are cleaning needs that are not related to individual littering (for example, the carpet needs to be vacuumed or trash needs to be emptied), you can place a maintenance request for cleaning with SLU facilities (button on left side of webpage). Please contact gsa.social@slu.edu with any related concerns.

FAQs: Can I reserve the meeting space?

You certainly can! The Graduate Reading Room contains a separate meeting room space, which can be reserved for graduate student uses such as study and/or reading groups, organizational meetings, or small social gatherings. To reserve the space, please check the Sheet below to see if anyone has reserved the space yet for the day/time you're interested in. The sheet is sorted with newest reservation dates at the top, so please scroll down and carefully check the highlighted "Date of Reservation" column to be sure that your date/time has not already been reserved. For timing on the date of interest, double check the starting time and durations of any existing reservations. Alternatively, you can click on the arrow in the upper right corner of the sheet to open the file and temporarily sort columns yourself as desired for easier viewing.
