North Wales, June 2010

A memorable weekend away at the UGLMC hut in Ogwen valley for two reasons:

1. Nobody on the roads on the Friday evening when we were travelling up (thanks, I suspect, to an apparently dull 0-0 draw between England and Algeria in the World Cup);

2. Sun! As in... not rain! An occasional cool breeze, yes, but nobody got wet and I resolutely stick to my (northern roots) claim that it was definately T-shirt weather.

Looking back at photos from the same trip in previous years it's clear that the second point is rare. It seems to have become a SMoG tradition to visit North Wales for the mid-June meet and most of the times I've been there it's been wet, very wet, for at least one of the two days...

2008: Cold, wet, extremely windy!

2009: Yep, cold and wet

2010: What's this? Sun? No clouds? Is that Tryfan I can see?

Of course, SMoG goes out in the hills whatever the weather but we certainly appreciated the conditions this year. The weekend's activities included walking, scrambling and climbing in the local area.
