1. Nearly all geckos have a voice, leopard geckos have a small "bark" they use if agitated.
2. Many geckos lack eyelids, but not the leopard ones! They can even blink and close their eyes while sleeping.
3. Like many lizards, the leopard gecko has a tail that can come off if grabbed by a predator. Giving them time to escape.
4. Leopard geckos are nocturnal, keeping out of the heat of the day, emerging at night from holes and crevices to hunt for food.
5. A leopard geckos gender is determined by incubation temperature. At 90° F, virtually all the eggs are male; near 80° F, most of the eggs will be female. An incubation temperature of 85° F will produce about an equal number of males and females.
6. Leopard gecko tails are used as a fat storage in case of food shortages.
7. When hunting, mating, and defending territory leopard geckos shake there tails.
8. The Latin genus/species name of leopard gecko is, Eublepharis Macularius, meaning well-made eyelid and spotted.
