The second moment of area is a geometrical constant, dependent on the shape of an object in question. The result aims to represent how points on the shape are distributed about an arbitrary axis.
It is used in loads of funky formulae, including beam theory, flexural rigidity and bending/twisting moment calculations to name some of the highlights.
The second moment of area is often referred to as 'I', especially in our magical materials course!
So sit back, relax, and enjoy your experience as we explain all of your second moment of area needs!
