Introduction to Twisting
Torsion
Twisting due to an applied torque
Torque(Nm)
A twisting force
Shaft
A long slender structural member subjected to a torque about it’s long axis
Torsional Stress
Torque applied to the end of a shaft
· Shaft twists an angle θ
· θ is a function of shaft length L and stiffness G (shear modulus)
· θ starts at zero and increases linearly as a function of X (as get further from pivot position)
· γ (inner core angle) is constant along length (x)
Stress is at maximum at the Radius (edge of the material)
