We will be reading authentic literature in a Reading Workshop type model.
The Reading Workshop is a teaching method in which the goal is to teach students strategies for reading and comprehension. The workshop model allows teachers to differentiate and meet the needs of all their students. Reading Workshop helps to foster a love of reading and gives students chances to practice reading strategies independently and with guidance.
Components of the Writing Workshop:
Conferences
During independent writing time, the teacher confers with students about their reading. The purpose is to ask students how their reading is going and to teach them something that makes sense at the time and reinforce the mini-lesson. During this time small groups may be pulled as well.
Mid - Workshop Teaching (If applicable)
Sharing
During the share portion, students contribute what they did during their independent reading time, either with the whole group or with a peer. This gives students the opportunity to observe and learn from each other.
