Download the materials you need to encourage your child to read outside the classroom. By utilizing the information found on this site, you’ll be equipped with the information you need to provide literacy support for your child's love of reading.
As parents, it’s important to promote and establish the value of lifelong literacy. Knowing where to start, however, can be a challenge. Studies show that it only takes 20 minutes per day to vastly improve a child’s reading ability. In one year, a child who reads 20 minutes a day is exposed to 1.8 million words. For children who only read 5 minutes per day outside of school, the number of words they’re exposed to drops to 282,000.
Not sure what to read next? Parents are encouraged to review book selections with their children in order to help them make appropriate choices. Visit your local public library.
