This year, both 5th and 6th grade choruses will be learning many musical concepts related to the art of singing in a large group ensemble.  We will be studying:

Your students will also be learning the teamwork, responsibility, and self-discipline required to participate in a large group ensemble.  In chorus, every single member is an important part of the group!

How is Chorus Graded?

Chorus is graded mainly on participation.  Each class, your student has the opportunity to earn 5 points.  If your student maintains their class materials, participates in stretches and vocal warmups, and participates in song learning/rehearsal to the best of their ability, your student will earn all 5 points!

If your student is not earning their full points, you may wish to discuss with them if their behavior and participation is the best it can possibly be.

6th grade students will also earn points for concert attendance.  If you have a major conflict (vacation, family emergency, etc) and are unable to attend the concert, please contact Mrs. West as soon as possible to work out an alternate assignment.

SAES SINGERS

SAES Singers is a 6th grade ensemble choir of up to 30 students.  The ensemble practices one day a week after school for thirty minutes.

Auditions for SAES Singers will take place in October.

CONCERT DRESS

Students should wear “dressy" clothing to the concert.  Girls may wear skirts, dresses, or dress pants with a nice top. Boys should wear khakis or dress pants (no shorts or gym attire; no jeans if possible) and a collared shirt (they do not have to wear ties, but they may).  As your student is dressing, be aware that the stage lights will get hot! It is a good idea to not bundle up too much.  It is also a good idea for girls to wear flat shoes, as opposed to heeled shoes, for comfort on the risers.

Students do NOT need to wear concert dress clothes to dress rehearsals… only to the concert!
