In 4th grade, your child has the opportunity to learn to play a band or strings instrument. Students who begin a band or strings instrument at Shaler Area are joining a nationally accredited music program. Our instrumental program spans from 4th to 12th grade, with many unique opportunities at each grade level. Students in 4th through 6th grade focus on learning their new instrument and playing in an ensemble setting. In middle school, band and strings students continue their musical training and have more advanced ensembles such as jazz band, and can even join our award winning Titan marching band. In high school, band and strings students have the opportunity to travel and compete with their ensembles, perform in the community, and with students in other school districts statewide. Most importantly, students who join band and orchestra are joining a family that will embrace and support them until the end of their school career at Shaler.
4th grade students can choose from a wide variety of instruments to learn. String instruments taught in school include violin, viola, cello, and string bass. Band instruments taught in school include flute, oboe, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, baritone, and percussion.
