Weekly Wrap-up

November 17, 2023

In the above pictures, you can see we  have been working very hard in our classroom to learn about the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday. The children are creating Thanksful Turkeys using their fine motor skill to cut out shapes to create a festive turkey!  Oh! there is an older picture from earlier this Fall. In it you see members in our class that are finger painting pumpkins by mixing yellow and red paint.

We had a very busy week. The children made a Halloween craft with Mrs. Duff that focused on measurement. The children had to wrap different lengths of medical tape around a jar to create a mummy. We put a flashlight candle in them. We hope you enjoy them on Halloween! Here are some pictures of the children creating their Night Time Pumpkins. They all enjoyed making their own orange paint using red and yellow paint and their own green paint using blue and yellow paint. Of course, finger painting is a  blast. We think their awesome!

This week we read some books about Johnny Chapman, other wise known as Johnny Appleseed. Our favorite story about him and some bears is by David Novak, titled Johnny Appleseed and the Bears . The children were all wide-eyed as we read that Johnny heard a "Grrrrr!" from the woods. Ask your child what did Johnny do with the bears? You may learn that he cut - out the seeds to plant and then he would feed the bears some apples. You may learn that at first there was one bear and then there were many bears!  While reading this story, we had fun  making bear  growling sounds and saying politely with a nod, "Thank you kindly! " . So much so,  that the next day they asked to read the story again! This rereading and interacting with the story is improves the children's memory and vocabulary.   In a nonfiction book, Welcome Fall Apples,  by Marilyn Easton, we learned that there are over a 7000 different types of apples in the world and in the USA there are over 2000 types of apples!

Next week we will have a taste test to see what kind of apples we like the best. We are thinking that we will take some of the seeds out of the apples to plant them. Then with a blessing from Saint Isidore and some prayers,  possibly we can have a real life view of an apple sprout! Keep this investigation in your prayers.

Also this week, you may have noticed from the children's take home work, that we are assessing if the children can 1 to 1 count with counting how many dots on dice and if the children can recognize numbers 1 to 6.  This type of learning takes place through out the year and we will gradually get to some larger numbers.

This week, Mrs. Douglass returned from her maternity leave. She jumped right back and is teaching both Pre-K classes some sign language to the Christmas Carol , Away in a Manger. God is so Good!

This week the children were blessed with a visit from St. Nicholas and received treats in the their paper bag shoes! He talked with them about the true meaning of Christmas. Also, howJesus gives us gifts at His birthday. We continued learning about his birth in many activities that also helped to us learn about numeral and color word recognition.  The children shared their gift of creativity in decorating  paperChristmas Trees for our Advent Family.

This week Miss Donna's son, Sergeant Brent Cordeiro visited our preschool. He answered the children's questions and did send home the message to the children that the military is not about fighting but protecting, not guns but serving people with helping out. An important message to children to learn in their early years. Praise God and God Bless America!

We celebrated Madeleine's Birthday this week. The children enjoyed the popsicles that Madeleine brought to share with her class. We all  enjoyed singing Happy Birthday to her. We are blessed to have Mrs. Donna Cordeiro assisting us in our classroom. She is engaging and helpful  with the children. Here she is helping the children use scissors for the Scaredy Cat craft activity. This activity helps to strengthen fine motor skills in using scissors, painting, squeezing glue drops, and placing the shapes to build a cat face. The children and I appreciated her help so much!

The specialty class are a blast!  I have a pictures of the children with Miss Foster, our gym teacher, and Mrs. Vigeant at library. They had a nice time at all their specialties!

A couple of our children enjoyed a letter recognition game  by blowing the dirt  off the turf to create the first letter of their name : ) They have very smart and creative minds!

These are pictures from the class of 2021 and 2022 in the Spring.

The children have worked so hard on their family Easter Gift. They have been watching their rye grass grow too and have been taking good care of it! They made Easter Lilies from cut outs of their hands. They made one for their Easter Family Gift and then one for the First Floor Bulletin Board which our class is presenting.

We are so blessed to have Mrs. Douglass to help with these craft projects and science projects as well.

We welcomed a visit from our friend, Father Leonard. He was so kind to play the drums with us!

The children did a great job creating cards for our Advent Families.

This is a very proud face!

Advent the season to prepare for Jesus' birth. It is a 4 week time frame. We think about the hope in Jesus, the Peace in Jesus, the Joy of Jesus, and HIs Love for us.

After reading, The Very First Thanksgiving Day, the children made a Mayflower from shapes and drew their own ocean.

Daniel is very happy with his efforts in cutting out shapes to build the  Mayflower and then draw the ocean. So very cute.

These budding scientist are eager to observe what will happen when the Crasins are added to oil, water, and sparkling water.
