Mindful Monday @ PTMS

A Social Emotional Learning Program Built to Last

At Pacific Trails Middle School, our Mindful Monday Social Emotional Learning (SEL) program—integrated into our Physical Education curriculum—is more than just a weekly lesson. It’s a curriculum we’ve thoughtfully built and refined over the last seven years, with one goal in mind: to help students grow into stronger, more resilient, and emotionally aware individuals.

The results speak for themselves. According to our 2024–25 8th-grade student survey:

76% reported feeling more resilient when facing tough situations.

85% said lessons on stress, anxiety, and adversity helped them during their 8th grade year.

90% found value in our sleep education unit.

91% said the self-defense unit was highly valuable.

73% of students reported using strategies from the curriculum to become a better version of themselves.

Our topics are intentionally chosen to meet students where they are—socially, emotionally, and developmentally. Lessons include:

Mindset – "Be a Coffee Bean", Active Listening – We Can All Do Better, Overcoming Stress, Conquering Anxiety, Embracing Adversity, The Power of Sleep, Body Image & Self-Respect, Healthy Friendships, Toxic Relationships & Knowing When to Walk Away, Vulnerability & Courage, Fentanyl Awareness – Song for Charlie, Inclusion & Empathy, Positive Self-Talk, Happiness & What Fuels It, Elite Discipline – Doing the Hard Stuff, Self-Defense – Practical Skills to Stay Safe
