As I begin my 24th year teaching physical education—and my 9th year at Pacific Trails—I feel incredibly grateful to be in a career I truly love. My mission is simple: to help every student build the knowledge, confidence, and skills to lead an active, healthy, and happy life.

In my PE classes, I work hard to create an environment that’s active, inclusive, and fun. We encourage students to get comfortable being uncomfortable, to push themselves beyond what they thought they could do—while also listening to their bodies and knowing when to rest or reset. Along the way, we focus on being great teammates and learning how movement supports both physical and mental well-being. Social and emotional learning is a big part of what we do, because building character is just as important as building fitness.

One of the highlights of my career was being named the Western States and National Runner-Up Physical Education Teacher of the Year by SHAPE America. I also serve as a National Trainer for OPEN (Online Physical Education Network), where I present at conferences and school districts across the country, supporting and inspiring fellow PE teachers. Over the past year, I’ve had the opportunity to present in Minnesota, Ohio, Maryland, Arizona, California, and Alaska—and I’m especially excited to present in New York this upcoming year. In addition, I’m a proud member of the San Diego Physical Education and Health Leadership Cadre, a team dedicated to supporting local Health and PE teachers throughout San Diego. These professional experiences help me grow as an educator and bring fresh energy and ideas into my classes at PTMS.

Outside of school, I love being active and spending time outdoors. Running is one of my biggest passions, and I'm currently chasing a goal of qualifying for the Boston Marathon. I’m also lucky to be a husband to my wife Sarah (who’s also a teacher) and a proud dad to two awesome daughters: Briella (14) and Liliana (11). Being a father motivates me every day to be the kind of teacher I’d want for my own kids.
