Ms. Lucia, aka Lucia Eisner-Smerage PhD, has loved science all of her life. Nothing makes me more proud than seeing students have fun while learning through hands-on activities. In a desire to help each student use her God-given talents to the best of her potential, I try to challenge each student to do her best each day. This year I will teach Honors Biology, Anatomy & Physiology (with college credit optional), AP Biology, Biomedical Ethics and Health Sciences Internship (Introduction to Health Occupations plus Pathophysiology) at SCA.
In a previous life, I also taught undergraduates, medical students and graduate students in such courses as Medical Microbiology, Pathophysiology, Health and other biomedical sciences. Born in communist Czechoslovakia, I cherish both my freedom and the privilege of practicing my faith openly.
An avid fossil hunter and certified "meggie," I spend my summers at my favorite Florida beach before dawn to see what the tide has brought in overnight. When I'm not fossil hunting, I can be found either in the violin studio helping get everyone tuned up, at the barn encouraging the equestriennes, dancing with an eye for humor over form to Just Dance XXIII, or on my hands and knees picking play-dough out of the carpet. Indeed, the astute will note that I have 4 science-loving children from college to grade school age, and all are above average at classification of fossilized shark's teeth. I am married to Dr. Jeff, a physician scientist and oncologist at UM.
Believing that the Holy Spirit calls each of us to a unique and important place in God's world, I consecrate each day to Mary. Sometimes uncertain how all the little things I have to do each week will be accomplished, I am a true believer in divine miracles. In addition to praying daily for my students, I dedicate each daily Mass at SCA to a different one of my students thus: "God, please grant any graces I would have received from this Eucharist to (name) and her personal intentions."
This will be Ms. Lucia's eighth year at SCA!!
