Welcome to the website of Newark Abbey, a community of Roman Catholic men living in community and following the Rule of Saint Benedict. As Benedictine Monks, we are committed to work and prayer where our community has been planted. In our case, this is the middle of New Jersey's largest city, where Abbot Boniface Wimmer of St. Vincent's in Pennsylvania, established St. Mary's Priory in 1857. Over the years, the city has changed around us. Today we share with our neighbors the challenges of city life. We try to bring Benedictine peace to the city.
