Summative Assessment (Test) #1 - IR and Imperialism

This test will have three parts.

  1. Multiple-choice: There will be 25 multiple-choice questions. You should study the vocabulary for this unit and use the practice questions in the study guide that I sent to you in your school email.

  2. Document Analysis: You will have to analyze one document. The document will be related to one of the economists that we have read about in The Worldly Philosophers (Adam Smith, David Ricardo, Thomas Malthus, and Karl Marx). You will need to be able to analyze how the document relates to the ideas of one of these men, identify whether the source is a primary source or a secondary source, and explain whether the source is credible and useful as evidence (click here for a review of the SOAPSTONE method). And you can find summaries of the chapters that we have read here.

  3. Essay: You will have to write an essay on either the Industrial Revolution or Imperialism. Although the question will not be one of the essential questions and focus questions that we use for our daily work, studying these and knowing how you would answer them (if they were actual essay questions), will prepare you well for this section of the test. I would focus on the following countries/regions: England, France, United States, Russia, the Ottoman Empire, Congo, South Africa, India, China, and Japan.
