As you have no doubt heard by now, this year PBMS has a Cross Country team! I am very excited to be coaching this inaugural year and look forward to seeing the program grow in the future. At this point, everyone on the team has turned in a parent permission slip that will allow us to run off-campus during practice (1:00-2:00 every Wednesday). This allows us to enjoy runs that we would not get to do during school time, such as up to Kate Sessions Park, down the boardwalk, and around the neighborhood. I think that this provides a more enjoyable and realistic running experience for everyone. Students will not be running by themselves, there will always be either myself or another adult supervisor with them during these runs. Parents, guardians, or family members are welcome to join us during practices and run with the students, you just have to stop by the office and pick up and complete a parent volunteer packet first.

Meets will be the last Thursday of the month for the next three months. Our first meet is Wednesday, September 27th. It will be located at the upper and lower fields of Standley Middle School at 6298 Radcliffe Drive 92122. You can park in the main parking lot or in the residential area on Radcliffe and walk to the field. Please arrive no later than 2:50 for stretching and course review, and the meet will start promptly at 3:20. Parents are welcome to come and cheer their students on. The race is two miles long. Awards will take place immediately after the race is done so I don’t imagine things lasting longer than 4:30 or so at the latest. Students are responsible for their own transportation, there will not be a school bus to the event, so feel free to communicate with other parents and carpool so that everyone can make it.

If you have any questions or comments feel free to contact me. I am looking forward to the rest of the season and watching everyone grow and have a fun time. As I tell the students, we are out there to strive to be our best, and hopefully find joy in something that will last a lifetime.
